Tupac Shakur's Estate Is Threatening to Sue Drake Over AI-Generated Vocals
On the Kendrick Lamar-diss track, “Taylor Made Freestyle.”
Tupac Shakur‘s estate is threatening to sue Drake for using AI-generated vocals of the late rapper in his most recent Kendrick Lamar diss track, “Taylor Made Freestyle.”
Billboard recently reported that the estate’s attorneys have given Drake 24 hours to pull the track from social media before they take official legal action to sue the Canadian artist. In a letter statement, it outlines, “The Estate is deeply dismayed and disappointed by your unauthorized use of Tupac’s voice and personality. The Estate is deeply dismayed and disappointed by your unauthorized use of Tupac’s voice and personality.” The Estate also seems to have an issue with Drake using Tupac’s vocals as a way to diss Kendrick, “The unauthorized, equally dismaying use of Tupac’s voice against Kendrick Lamar, a good friend to the Estate who has given nothing but respect to Tupac and his legacy publicly and privately, compounds the insult.”
“Taylor Made Freestyle” dropped late last week as an initial response from Drake to the most recent slew of disses started by Kendrick Lamar’s verse on “Like That.” In the Drake track, AI Tupac raps, “If you deal with this viciously/ You seem a little nervous about all the publicity/ Fuck this Canadian lightskin.” The use of AI comes at a precarious time as Drake was recently involved in a controversy when an artist going by the name ghostwriter released a song, “heart on my sleeve” which featured AI vocals from Drake and The Weeknd.
