BOTTER SS23 Was an Homage to Mother Earth

Keeping oceanic references at the fore.

Led by power couple Rushemy Botter and Lisi Herrebrugh, BOTTER has grown into its own over the past few seasons. Formed on the basis of rich Caribbean references and a sustainable DNA, the label is recognized for its blending of couture and sporty motifs into undoubtedly flirtatious bundles. Its most recent Fall/Winter 2022 collection saw the design duo present “Dear Earth,” which gave nods to both founders’ tropical roots.

For Spring/Summer 2023, BOTTER pays homage to Mother Earth through oceanic references and plenty of H2O (literally). The brand’s signature vibrant blue hue is blasted across the collection, alongside contrasting browns, blacks, oranges and greys. The first look set the tone for what was to come as slouchy trousers were paired with a tucked-in blazer and undershirt, not to mention the model strolled down the runway with his hands deep inside water-filled condoms.

Subsequently, suits and bodycon dresses saw heart-shaped cutouts at the midpoint and accompanied garments with wrap-around sleeves reminiscent of divers rising for air and shedding their scuba equipment. Slim-fit T-shirts are adorned by playful dolphins and coastal scenes with rhinestone detailing, while slip dresses are printed with deep-sea graphics, and button-up shirts don cartoon sea life. Finally, belted jumpsuits and peeled coats are constructed from protective neoprene, much like wetsuits and matched with knitted face masks that shield the wearer from the outside world.

While last season saw BOTTER reimagine leather Derbys set atop football cleats, SS23 presents the traditional adidas football boot sunken into a transparent plate as if frozen inside a brick of ice.
