Stepping inside the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the supermodel debuted a jaw-dropping custom look designed by Zac Posen for GapStudio. Taking the brand’s iconic white T-shirt and pushing it to the absolute limits of couture craftsmanship, the ensemble perfectly captured the evening’s “Costume Art” theme while cementing Gap‘s place within the global high-fashion conversation.
The conceptual foundation of Jenner’s look was heavily shaped by Posen’s early experiences as an intern at the Costume Institute, as well as his deep fascination with the relationship between fashion, art, and the human form. Drawing direct inspiration from the iconic Winged Victory of Samothrace, the gown was designed to explore the interplay of strength, femininity, and freedom.
To bring this vision to life, the construction process moved far beyond traditional draping. The garment was engineered as a second skin, featuring liquid-like cotton jersey draped over a custom-molded leather bodice base. Blending layers of jersey, satin-faced chiffon, and organza, the fabric was meticulously hand-dyed in tea to create depth and a lived-in patina. This technique evoked classical “wet drapery,” where the fabric beautifully reveals and enhances the body beneath it. To complete the mythic aesthetic, the look featured detachable wing-like extensions adorned with a photographic print of the Winged Victory sculpture.
“Fashion becomes art when it engages with the body. It’s not separate from the wearer; the body becomes part of the artwork,” Posen explained. “The look started with a white T-shirt and evolved through draping and manipulation into something sculptural and alive, shaped by movement, with a sense of fluidity and wind that echoes the sea-swept energy of the sculpture.”
Posen, accompanying Jenner on the carpet, also leaned into the sculptural theme. The designer wore a reimagined Gap Icon jacket cast in leather and molded to echo the musculature of a classical Greek figure. Finished in a hand-painted bronzed patina with subtle oxidized-copper undertones, the jacket was paired with dark indigo boot jeans, effortlessly balancing the mythic with the everyday.
The collaboration marks a defining moment for GapStudio. Launched in April 2025, the studio represents the pinnacle of Gap’s design capabilities, merging the brand’s rich heritage with high-concept innovation.
