Independant watch brand Nivada Grenchen has added a fun new offering to its Antartic series. Dubbed Antarctic Erotic, the new timepiece serves as a playful nod to the historic “erotic” watches in watchmaking. As its name suggests, the timepiece features a raunchy design element, but instead of flaunting it in the open, this mischievous detail is tucked away on the caseback. Conceived by a respected independent watchmaker under the alias of “Dr. Coldwater,” depicts a pair of copulating penguins, animated on the exhibition caseback — a creative yet frolic homage to the Antartic’s signature penguin emblem.
Beyond its cheeky backside, the watch features a rather normal and classic dial. Staying true to the brand’s vintage-inspired aesthetic, the Antarctic Erotic is housed in a 38mm stainless steel “Spider Case” and is offered in several iterations. The watch face is clean and balanced, with hours, minutes and seconds displayed through a modified Soprod P054 movement, while one colorway also includes a discreet date complication. The dial is also protected by a single-curve sapphire lens, enhancing legibility and adding a subtle vintage charm.
The collection offers a wide range of dial executions, including popular salmon and beige variants alongside classic black and white options. For further customization, it can also be paired with several strap and bracelet options, such as the iconic bead of rice, flat links or mesh, as well as black tropical rubber and various leather straps. The Antarctic Erotic follows a strict time-limited pre-order system opening on April 30, 2026, with prices ranging from $1,569 – $1,769 USD.
