  • J. Cole released a cinematic trailer for his upcoming studio album The Fall-Off
  • The visual features narration on the fleeting nature of fame and a preview of a new track
  • Dreamville has confirmed the project will officially release in early February

J. Cole has officially initiated the countdown for his long-awaited studio album, The Fall-Off. After years of teasing the project as the concluding chapter of his career’s current era, the North Carolina rapper shared a new trailer on Wednesday that sets a contemplative tone for what may be his final major body of work, as well as confirms a February 6 release date.

The teaser trailer steers clear of typical promotional bombast, opting instead for a grounded, almost somber atmosphere. Visuals depict Cole in mundane settings—washing a car at a self-service station and sitting alone at a diner counter. Over these scenes, an unidentified narrator deconstructs the public’s fascination with an artist’s decline. “It’s like, ‘Oh, this guy used to be famous and then he fell off. What happened?’” the voiceover questions, challenging the narrative of relevancy that plagues modern celebrity culture.

The clip transitions into a snippet of a new song, where Cole’s vocals cut through with a rhythmic, assertive delivery before the video fades to the album’s title. This project serves as the culmination of “The Fall-Off Era” list Cole shared in 2020, following the release of The Off-Season and the mixtape Might Delete Later. With limited edition physicals already appearing on digital storefronts, the rollout aims to cement Cole’s legacy before his rumored departure from the spotlight.

Check out the teaser above. The Fall-Off is set to drop on February 6 via Dreamville and Interscope Records.
