Summary

  • A U.S. version of TikTok is reportedly launching on September 5, 2025
  • Users will need to download the new app, but the current one remains active until March 2026
  • This follows President Trump’s announcement of TikTok’s planned sale

A version of Bytedance‘s TikTok for users in the United States is reportedly in the works.

A report from The Information claims that the new social media platform will release via US app stores on September 5. Users will have to download the new version in order to continue using the platform, however the current app will be in service until March 2026. This schedule, however, is subject to change.

News of the US edition arrives shortly after president Donald Trump announced TikTok’s planned sale to a group of “very wealthy people.” The president also stated that the acquisition will possibly require the Chinese government’s approval, and that Chinese President Xi Jinping will likely agree to the sale. The identities of the investors will supposedly be released in the coming weeks.

TikTok is currently operating in the US under President Trump’s third ban extension, which will expire on September 17.
