Summary

  • Domenico Formichetti staged PDF’s Spring/Summer 2026 collection dubbed “FREE-DOM” at Milan Fashion Week
  • “Sometimes my mind feels like a cage,” said the young designer, the sentiment that fueled this season’s menswear lineup

Domenico Formichetti never goes half-in on an idea. It’s Formichetti’s fervency that fuels the PDF‘s conversation-catalyzing menswear designs, the immersive creative concepts, disruptive silhouettes, and sportswear-swerving style codes. However, as Formichetti shared in his recent interview for Hypebeast Magazine 34: The Uniform Issue, sometimes he feels like he’s trapped in the confines of his thoughts.

The young designer expanded upon this sentiment in his Spring/Summer 2026 Milan showcase, aptly entitled “FREE-DOM.” Formichetti invited a flock of A-list guests and stylephiles alike to a stark prison yard, in which models paced up and down the cage, mirroring the designer’s own “trapped thoughts, doubts and desires.”

“Sometimes my mind feels like a cage. The only way out is to create,” contextualized Formichetti in a post-show delivery. “There’s always friction. Between what people expect of me and what I actually want to say.”

With that principle laying the groundwork for the collection, the new PDF signals a shift in commenting on the cultural zeitgeist to, rather, steering the conversation inward. Spring/Summer 2026 is about PDF and breaking down all of those boundaries that prevent it from operating at its full potential. Vibrant colors engulfed sharper, more poignant silhouettes, complemented by tonal textures, and a more refined approach to footwear.

Though a core facet of Formichetti’s creative endeavors is community, something still strongly implemented into the show. Embodying the collection’s mantra – “release as a communal act” – the brand’s community of cultural disruptors, such as Rafael Leão, Stefon Diggs, Alvin Kamara, Tony Effe, and Julez Smith, all walked the runway.

“This is the beginning of something. Because once you break out, you don’t go back.”
