At Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025 in Barcelona, Lenovo unveiled a groundbreaking innovation: the Solar Yoga PC, a laptop that charges itself by harnessing sunlight. This pioneering device marks a significant leap in sustainable technology, integrating advanced solar energy conversion features to extend battery life — even in low-light conditions.
The Lenovo Solar Yoga PC utilizes Back Contact Cell technology, embedding solar cells on the back of the device while relocating mounting brackets and gridlines to the rear. This design maximizes light absorption, enhancing overall energy efficiency.
To further optimize power generation, Lenovo has incorporated a Dynamic Solar Tracking System, which continuously monitors solar panel current and voltage, adjusting in real time for peak energy conversion. According to Lenovo, the solar panel boasts a 24% conversion rate, among the highest in the industry. Impressively, just 20 minutes of sunlight exposure can generate enough power for one hour of video playback.
With its slim 15 mm profile and lightweight 1.22 kg design, the Yoga Solar PC balances portability with sustainability. While Lenovo has not yet announced a release date, this innovation sets a bold precedent for the future of eco-friendly computing.
