M.I.A. Drops Powerful Video for "Borders"
The artist challenges policies on the migration crisis in a boat full of refugees.
After releasing the single “Borders” off her latest album Matahdatah Scroll 01 Broader Than a Border M.I.A. drops an equally provocative video reflecting the politically-charged tone. The self-directed video emphasizes the hazardous journey of refugees, as we see her traveling on overcrowded boats and across barbed-wired fences. Never one to shy away from touching upon important global topics, her simple yet compelling lyrics challenge policies that people around the world are often faced with. She recently posted on Twitter, “The world I talked about 10 years ago is still the same,” giving the reassurance that even with a new album, her passion to politicize music hasn’t changed.
