Father John Misty Drops "God's Trash" in Humorous Response To Kendrick Lamar Surprise Dropping 'GNX' on The Same Day as His Album
FJM and Lamar have released albums on the same day in 2012, 2015, 2017, 2018 and 2022.
Father John Misty took to Instagram to release the new track “God’s Trash” following Kendrick Lamar surprise releasing GNX on the same day as his album Mahashmashana.
The track itself was first released on Bandcamp earlier this October, and its wide release serves as FJM’s “response” to Dot trampling his album’s release day with GNX. The two have shared album release dates five times over the past 12 years, first in 2012 then in 2015, 2017, 2018 for the Black Panther soundtrack and, most recently, Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers in 2022.
FJM addressed the coincidence on X, completely forgetting that the Black Panther soundtrack was done by Dot. He takes the whole situation lightly, however, and fans even got a new release from it. Listeners also took to his Instagram to join in, writing comments like “the heart part 7,” “those some big steppers” and even tagging Lamar to tell him that he has 24 hours to respond.
