Harry Nuriev Creates Kitchen Sink Tower for We Are Ona Pop-Up

In Paris, diners gathered around a metallic mountain and ate off seemingly used plates.

For their latest collaboration, We Are Ona and Harry Nuriev created a gastronomic experience that saw the unseen scenes of a restaurant take center stage.

The Crosby Studios founder, who first worked alongside We Are Ona earlier this year, began by looking at the industrial and utilitarian objects confined to the restaurant kitchen. In particular, the stainless steel preparation surfaces and dishwashing areas provided specific points of inspiration.

Nuriev then began to create a design that would take over the sixth and seventh floors of an old building in Paris. This resulted in a large scale fountain-like installation, which saw a tower of sinks set in the middle of a large pool of water. Diners were placed around the edge of the installation, with further tables placed across the lengths of the spaces.

Towards the back, pantry-style shelving displayed ingredients alongside a set of plates – entitled “Dirty Plates” – designed especially for the space by Nuriev and We Are Ona founder Luca Pronzato.

“The new pop-up showcases the back of the kitchen, moving forward into the spotlight, visible and accessible, as a field for artistic experimentation open to all,” We Are Ona said. “The kitchen is revealed through a minimalist installation that synchronizes off-screen and real-life experiences where elegance meets the primal.”

Food was prepared by Michelin-starred chef Dalad Kambhu, who offered up a “contemporary interpretation” of traditional Thai cuisine. “Dalad Kambhu practices the art of flavor, using local products from one country to another, from her restaurant Kin Dee in Berlin and Paris,” We Are Ona added.

Take a look at the installation above, and for more design, check out the latest exhibition taking place at London’s Design Museum, which offers an homage to the creativity of skateboarding.
