Watch Warped Perception Operate the World's Smallest Rotary Engine at 30,000 RPM
The 2.46cc engine screams.
Warped Perception — a channel dedicated to putting a fun spin on science, engineering, and technology — has been known to feature miniature engines to give viewers a better understanding of how the full-sized version operates. His latest mini engine test is sure to please Mazda fans as he takes the world’s smallest rotary engine for a test run.
The Toyan RS-S100 single-rotor Wankel rotary engine is just a mere 2.46cc, weighs 415 grams, and produces 0.72 horsepower at 14,800rpm. It is a fully-working engine that can be fitted to an RC car and is made with a 6-grade precision 30-tooth internal gear, a 20-tooth external gear, a steel flywheel, and a reinforced crankshaft. After building a testing bench for the engine, Warped Perception goes on to push the limits of the engine by cranking it up to 30,000rpm. Have a listen to the sound in the video above.
For those interested in the mini rotary engine, one can be picked up over at Engine DIY for $499 USD.
