Since the advent of personal computing technology, pioneers like Acer broadened the possibilities of understanding the world around us. Now, as the need to reconsider our relationship with the planet becomes ever more pressing, the iconic brand has unveiled its most innovative product yet to better open our eyes to a sustainable way of living.

The result is the Acer Aspire Vero, a green personal laptop made from recycled plastic, representing a commitment to engineering a more sustainable future. Created using 30% post-consumer recycled (PCR) plastic in the chassis, and designed to be durable, easily disassembled, paint-free and energy efficient, the Aspire Vero is able to save around 21% in CO2 emissions compared to conventional laptops—earning it an EPEAT® Silver registration and making it ever easier to reuse, recycle and reduce, even when it comes to tech.

It’s high time we made our green mark. To find out how, we spoke to three pioneering minds on how they used creative means—enabled by the Acer Aspire Vero—to make the world a little bit greener, one step at a time.

Rob Greenfield

Known as the Dude Making A Difference, Rob Greenfield takes the mantra ‘one man’s trash is another man’s treasure’ further than most. The American environmental advocate has made it his life’s mission to spread the message of sustainable living using unconventional methods: from wearing the trash he produces, to abstaining from showering for a year, and cycling penniless across the US on a bamboo bicycle, there’s nothing that’s beyond Rob when he needs to drive his point home. Key to his efforts is technology that allows Rob to build his momentum and touch hearts and minds across the world more deeply and quicker than ever before. The Aspire Vero is crucial to his efforts, being both upgradable, paint-free, and durable, so that it lasts longer without needing replacement—in turn keeping Rob’s impact on the environment to the bare minimum.

Julian Cheong

Prominent Singaporean photographer Julian Cheong is best known for his stunning landscapes and compositions of raw nature, but this wasn’t always the case. “When I first got into photography, I shot everything and anything I could get my hands on. [But] I came to the realization that shooting landscapes and nature gave me the most satisfaction.” To date, the self-taught photographer has been featured on VICE and Canon EOS World, having travelled from Japan to Spain, Vietnam to Iceland to capture his dreamy shots that instill in his followers an urge to preserve nature as it stands. The secret to his photography is the Aspire Vero and its 11 th Gen Intel Core processors, which allow him to seamlessly edit across multiple software simultaneously and seamlessly.

Mats Rombaut

Based out of Paris, Belgian fashion designer Mats Rombaut is best known for his sustainable sneaker designs that blend avant-garde, genderless aesthetics—think “ugly cool” thigh-high sneakers and “orthopedic” heels in Y2K-appropriate shades of acid green and dreamy purple—with a keen awareness of the detrimental impact of fashion on the environment. As a result, Rombaut takes things into his own hands, utilizing vegan textiles like Apinat Bio (a biodegradable thermoplastic) and Piñatex (made from pineapple plant fibers leftover from pineapple harvests) to ensure that his designs leave behind no trace once committed to the landfill. Central to his efforts is the Aspire Vero, which packs features like a 15.6” FHD IPS display and Intel® Iris® Xe graphics for best-in-class 3D rendering; while the VeroSense™ smart battery management app allows the laptop to go as long as Rombaut needs.

Our computers are a reflection of our lifestyles, connecting us with the world and in many cases turning our dreams into reality. As we become more conscious of our impact on the environment, it’s no stretch of the imagination for us to ask the same of our computers. The Acer Aspire Vero is the first to instill this ethos right into its design and production, offering a blueprint for how our technology can become a little kinder to the planet we share.
