Crunchyroll, the unrivaled streaming site with the latest anime options since its inception in 2006, has released one of the most anticipated original series of the year, Blade Runner: Black Lotus. The all-new Crunchyroll Original series, with co-production from Adult Swim, follows a young woman named Elle, who awakens in the desert with no recollection of her memories and discovers that she possesses deadly skills. Elle then escapes to Los Angeles where she begins to unravel her mysterious past and tracks down the people responsible for her violent history. The series takes place in between the original Blade Runner film and the sequel, Blade Runner 2049, showcasing how the world has changed in the time between films.

In the video above, HYPEBEAST breaks down the top five reasons for why we can’t wait to see this latest installment in the Blade Runner franchise. Firstly, the team behind Blade Runner: Black Lotus features a number of anime veterans, including Directors Shinji Aramaki and Kenji Kamiyama, who worked together on Ghost in a Shell: SAC_2045, as well as creator of Cowboy Bebop, Shinichiro Watanabe. Also, Black Lotus reimagines Blade Runner’s dystopian cyberpunk world through the medium of CGI anime, capturing its signature rainy, neon Los Angeles vibes and futuristic tech aesthetic, through an entirely new lens.

Another important point of emphasis is the show’s soundtrack, which is co-written by Michael Hodges, the Grammy nominated producer behind Blade Runner 2049’s soundtrack. The soundtrack features original music from G-Eazy, 070 Shake, and X-Ambassadors, as well as the opening theme “Feel You Now,” an original song written and performed by Alessia Cara. Finally, while the two previous films take a look at the divisions between Replicants and humans, the series dives even deeper into the lives of Replicants, further exploring the question of what it means to be human and practice humanity.

Watch the video above and explore the new world of Blade Runner: Black Lotus, streaming now on Crunchyroll.
