Michael B. Jordan Confirmed to Produce Live-Action 'Static Shock' Film
Teaming up with filmmaker and ‘Django Unchained’ producer Reginald Hudlin.
Michael B. Jordan is set to produce a live-action adaptation of Milestone Media and DC Comics‘ Static Shock.
The actor confirmed the news after filmmaker Reginald Hudlin addressed the topic during DC FanDome. “I’m proud to be a part of building a new universe centered around Black superheroes; our community deserves that,” Jordan said in a statement. “Outlier Society is committed to bringing to life diverse comic book content across all platforms and we are excited to partner with Reggie and Warner Bros. on this initial step.”
Back in August 2020, Hudlin revealed that they are looking to breathe new life into Milestone Media with several projects. He explained, “When we spoke to Jim [Lee] about reviving the Milestone line, we said ‘Look, we all know this has been a hit comic book and hit animated series. It’s time to expand back into all those areas and then some.’ So we’re in serious conversations about, as we’re launching the comic book series, developing the ‘Static Shock’ movie. That will be a theatrical feature film.”
Static Shock was first created in the ’90s and focused on a Black teenager named Virgil Hawkins, who wielded electromagnetic powers as Static Shock. A Kids’ WB animated series was premiered in the early 2000s and even went on to win several Daytime Emmy Awards nominations.
Elsewhere in entertainment, Kanye West will be appearing on The Joe Rogan Experience.
