Earlier this year we saw an increased emphasis on foldable tech. With Samsung’s Galaxy Fold and Huawei’s Mate X arguably the most hyped new technology of 2019, it seems Lenovo has taken note of the new tech trend, replicating a similar concept within its latest Thinkpad X1 prototype.
In a new video by The Verge, the new tech is showcased in all its glory. Meant to rival Apple’s line of MacBook’s, the new foldable tech totes a tablet-like design t hat utilizes a hinge within the center of the screen, allowing for the device to be held like a book or folded and placed on a flat surface to provide a traditional notebook experience. The exterior of the new prototype totes a moleskin exterior, which gives it a unique book-esque feel. Finishing off the initial prototype is a stylus, which allows for more tablet-styled experiences and services.
You can check out the new Lenovo Thinkpad X1 foldable prototype in the video above. Currently, the tech giant is expecting to see production units ready in 2020.

This foldable Lenovo Thinkpad X1 prototype looks like something between a laptop, a tablet and a physical paper notebook, all rolled into one. Yes, it folds from a smaller form factor into a full tablet, but it actually works half way, too — popping up a virtual keyboard f and working as a makeshift touchscreen laptop. Prefer physical control? That’ll be an option. Lenovo has plans to create a portable Bluetooth keyboard for the device that makes it feel like a mini desktop computer, and the prototype we saw already comes with a Wacom stylus. How well that works as an actual product may be up for debate, but this hardware experiment certainly feels solid. #lenovo #thinkpad #lenovothinkpad #thinkpadx1 #prototype #foldablephone #foldablescreen #technology
