Staxx Proves San Bernardino is Just Like Compton on "SBC"
California has a new movement brewing.

DJ Quik proclaimed it loudly and it rings true today: every dog-eat-dog hood is just like Compton. Case in point: the world that up-and-coming, Nipsey Hussle-cosigned rapper Staxx reveals to viewers to on “SBC.” The same visiceral reaction elicited by videos like NWA’s “Straight Outta Compton” and Chief Keef’s “Don’t Like” should erupt with releases like this. Past videos for songs such as “Dino City Lifestyle,” “Dino City” and “Young IE” all fall under the same blue-rag banner as well. It’d be easy to write music like this off as “ignorant,” but there’s a clear and direct message: regardless of what side of the 91 or 10 freeway you’re on, guns will go off, blacked-out police Chargers and SUVs will always pull up, colors will always matter and there’s always a market for drugs. At the moment, Staxx has a pretty solid project out — featuring a lot of production from criminally-underrated L.A. beatsmith Larry Jayy — and a joint project with Compton’s Ken Malik on the way. For now, check out the video for “SBC” above.
