Nardwuar Takes D.R.A.M. on a Trip Down Memory Lane
From school choirs to one of his largest singles.
Currently on tour with Kendrick Lamar, D.R.A.M. took some time to stop and have a conversation with eccentric internet personality Nardwuar. In the interview, D.R.A.M. talked about his early days in music, starting off with his experience in his community’s youth choir.
I was leaving the eighth grade and [my old music teacher] wasn’t going to be my music teacher anymore. She was like ‘I’m starting up this choir, you should be a part of it.’ So I was in that joint for like three years.
After sharing a few embarrassing childhood photos and introducing Nardwuar to his crew, D.R.A.M. also talked about the first time he played his hit single “Cha Cha,” which he says garnered a very positive reaction from those in attendance.
It was Gabe Niles’s birthday party, who also produced the record with me. It was an amazing night. [The song] was going to be something dope to get the crowd going and at the end of my set they made me run it back, and when we ran it back it was like pandemonium.
