Desiigner Breaks Down the Differences Between EDM & Hip-Hop Shows
He also opens up about the NYC rap scene.
For the latest entry in our Conversations With interview series, HYPEBEAST linked up with NYC star Desiigner to talk about the evolution of his sound, the major differences between electronic dance music events and hip-hop shows, Brooklyn’s local rap scene, and his energetic personality.
When looking to the contrast between EDM and rap events, Desiigner tells HYPEBEAST that the energy is definitely on a completely different level when it comes to dance music shows. “When I go to a Steve Aoki festival, it’s definitely the energy,” he explains, noting Aoki’s trademark use of cake-throwing. Elsewhere, the rapper shouts out Jay Critch and explains that artists in Brooklyn are less likely to work together compared to a major city where rappers are more open to collaboration — like Atlanta. Of course, Desiigner ends the conversation with a breakdown of his hyperactive personality and charisma.

Towards the beginning of the month, Desiigner released the official video for “Tonka.”
