Tragic news hit us today, as we learned that singer, songwriter and instrumentalist Mark Linkous has committed suicide. Best known for his work as a frontman for alternative rock band Sparklehorse, Linkous gained notoriety through pain-induced music. This came as no surprise as he actually died for two minutes in 1996 after consuming a dangerous mix of Valium and antidepressants. Although he recovered, the incident left him crippled because of interrupted circulation to his legs due to unconsciousness of 14 hours. When medics attempted to straighten his legs, Linkous suffered a heart attack and underwent seven surgeries to save his damaged limbs. After destiny hit him, he recorded classic records like 1999’s “Good Morning Spider” (1999), “It’s A Wonderful Life” (2001) and Dreamt for “Light Years in the Belly of a Mountain” (2006).

Here is the statement of his family.

It is with great sadness that we share the news that our dear friend and family member, Mark Linkous, took his own life today. We are thankful for his time with us and will hold him forever in our hearts. May his journey be peaceful, happy and free. There’s a heaven and there’s a star for you.

Rest In Peace.
