Nick Cannon Stresses the Importance of Comedy When Tackling Difficult Topics
He also discusses returning to music and getting his own late-night talk show and more
MIC/LINE (formerly named Sound Check) is HYPEBEAST Radio‘s music-centric show that looks to deliver in-depth conversations with your favorite artists, digging into their origin stories and asking the questions you want answered. For our season two finale episode, we have Nick Cannon as our special guest.
Nick Cannon is a jack of all trades. Since his early years, Nick Cannon has been a multi-faceted talent, beginning his career by acting on popular Nickelodeon shows such as ALL That and Kenan & Kel while also moonlighting as a rapper. Since then, his Ncredible Entertainment empire has expanded and it seems like he has a hand in every level of the industry. With fame and fortune comes ridicule but Nick Cannon never backs down from a challenge, staying true himself and what he thinks are the right steps to take. His status as an entertainer and business mind has grown tremendously and he’s become a figure in television, film, music, and comedy. While discussing the contemporary comedy scene, Nick understands the role comedy plays, especially when talking about sensitive topics.
“Every time someone comes at me, I’m like, bring it,” he explains. “Because I’m from the school of George Carlin, I’m from the school of Dick Gregory, I’m from the school of [Richard] Pryor. Where the purpose of comedy is to hold up the mirror to society and say look at us, that’s what satire is.”
For this episode, Nick Cannon discusses returning to music for his upcoming project Model Music, the importance of Wild ‘N Out, Arsenio Hall, the importance of comedy, making sound business decisions, if the Real Husbands of Hollywood will ever return, and so much more.
Most recently, Cannon was announced that he will be hosting and co-producing FOX’s brand new show, THE MASKED SINGER, which premieres on Jan. 2, 2019, plus he’s currently prepping for his forthcoming project. He’s also developing a weekly topical late-night show for Fox. In between his duties as the chairman of Teen Nick, televsion host and his NCredible Entertainment empire, he’s also a student at Howard University.
