Kanye West Hospitalized After Canceling Tour

Los Angeles police responded to a medical welfare call about 1:20 p.m. (4:20 p.m. ET). According to sources close to the rapper, Kanye is being treated for “exhaustion,” and no criminal activity was involved. West’s wife, Kim Kardashian West, was in New York for a charity event to honor her late father. Upon hearing the news about Kanye, she quickly flew back to Los Angeles; this would have marked her first public appearance since the robbery in Paris, something that has weighed heavily on West since it happened.

His admission to the hospital followed a week of bizarre incidents during which the controversial rapper publicly railed against fellow music stars Beyoncé and Jay Z and proclaimed his support for President-elect Donald Trump. Upon cancelling his tour, West will be losing approximately $500,000 USD for each missed performance tallying up towards $10 million USD in total, according to Forbes. Another source told Page Six:

“He’s having a nervous breakdown. He’s surrounded by all these crazy people, but there’s nobody he listens to or who can rein him in. He’s spiraling further and further out of control. Basically everything crazy he does is ‘art’ — canceling his tour is ‘art’ — he is becoming more and more unpredictable. His state of mind goes back a long way, perhaps to the death of his mother, which he never got over. That combined with his chaotic life — he often stays up and works for 48 hours at a time when he’s on, and calls his team at 3 a.m. Kanye needs a stronger support system, he needs to take some time to fall to the ground and start from scratch again. He’s so talented, but he’s his own worst enemy.”
