Flying Lotus Hopes to Redefine Beauty in Self-Directed Short, 'Skinflick'
Dedicated to his friend Bumpy Bob the Bubble Boy.
In usual FlyLo style, the producer-now-turned-director continues to elevate the boundaries of art from all angles, this time partnering up with NOWNESS to create this new short film directed and scored by Flying Lotus himself titled, Skinflick. The beautifully unsettling visual is a tribute centered around his friend Bob Heslip who lives with neurofibromatosis type 1 — a rare skin condition where growth of tumors develop around nerves in the skin, brain, and other parts of the body. As Flying Lotus explains in a press release:
I first met Bob Heslip when working on my feature film KUSO – I had him do a very small role for me and in the process of shooting I saw so much potential in him as an actor and a unique human being. He is a lovely man and I wanted to make a film that would honor the beauty of his unique condition.
Despite his rare condition, Bob Heslip, otherwise known as “Bob the Bubble Boy,” is also an actor and performer who aside from making an appearance in FlyLo’s controversial Kuso from earlier this year, also performs with the Venice Beach Freakshow company.
