For its collaboration with TAG Heuer, timepiece publication HODINKEE decided to look back into the Swiss watch brand’s archives. The resulting Carrera Skipper takes inspiration from the super rare Carrera Skipper 7754, which was released 50 years ago to celebrate the winner of that year’s America’s Cup. In the half a century since then, the watch has gone on to become one of the most sought after and collectible, with only 20 being made and a long-running dispute over whether or not it was even real.
As well as mixing elements from the legendary 7754, the HODINKEE x TAG Heuer also has a modern “Glassbox” case, a date graph inspired by another classic ’60s watch, and three different straps, in blue leather, grey NATO or orange NATO. While not as exclusive as the OG Carrera Skipper, the TAG Heuer x Hodinkee Carrera Skipper is strictly limited to 125 editions. The watch is available now from the HODINKEE web store, setting you back $5,900 USD.
