Watch a Clip of 'You Were Never Really Here' Scored by Jonny Greenwood
Starring Joaquin Phoenix.
Playing in competition for the Palme d’Or at Cannes Film Festival this week, Lynne Ramsay’s You Were Never Really Here stars Joaquin Phoenix as a war veteran who’s on a mission to save women exploited from sex trafficking. Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood announced that he was scoring the film earlier this month, and we now get a glimpse of his original composed music. In the clip above, we witness Phoenix’s character clad in a hoodie as he makes his way down a dark alleyway before being attacked by someone from behind. Greenwood’s rythmic instrumental sets the tone for the beginning, while a mysterious synth-led sound initiates as Phoenix walks away from the attacker and wearily heads off in a cab to the airport.
Based on Jonathan Ames’s novel of the same name, You Were Never Really Here has been acquired by Amazon Studios and will make its world premiere at Cannes.
