These Spectacular Science Photos of Life Raise the Bar on Photography
A 3D reconstruction of pathways of the brain?
Thanks to science and technology, more and more of the tiny, hidden parts of life become illuminated. Recently, the 2017 Wellcome Image Awards announced the finalists for the best science images from the past year. The photos and renderings document advancements made in 3D-printed reconstructions, microscopic imaging, and graphic visualizations of collected data. The mix includes an AI contact lens, a bioluminescent Hawaiian bobtail squid, a 3D reconstruction of white matter language pathways of the brain, and a graphical visualization of data collected from Tweets with the hashtag #breastcancer. The winners will be announced on March 15 and images will be judged on “quality, technique, visual impact, and their ability to communicate and engage.”
