GoPro Confirms Plans to Release the HERO6 Camera This Year
Despite profit losses and production issues, the company is moving forward.

GoPro’s CEO Nick Woodman has announced in a recent earnings call that the company is scheduled to launch its HERO6 camera this year. It comes as a surprise given the camera maker’s rough 2016, with a net loss of $116 million USD in its fourth quarter, followed by recalls of its Karma Drone due to mechanical issues. With production delays of the HERO5, it appeared that they were moving towards a two-year release cycle between versions of its signature action-cam line. However, Woodman assured investors by stating the following during the call:
“Yes, we can confirm there will be new cameras and other accessories released during the year and new camera namely being HERO6. But we’re not going to share any information as to the timing or any other details around the release of those new products as you can imagine.”
While the company is keeping details to a minimum, the HERO6 could include a spherical camera to capture VR content.
