'Close Encounters of the Third Kind' Reimagined in 8-Bit Form
An homage to the 40-year-old film.
This year, Steven Spielberg‘s Close Encounters of the Third Kind turned 40. The sci-fi masterpiece has held a special place in film history since its release and in its honor, artist Christopher Harrison has created a brief 8-bit video.
Several of the film’s iconic scenes have been reproduced in colorful retro graphics, with just enough detail. Roy Neary’s obsession with UFOs is lovingly remade in the blocky style of old NES games and the Space Invaders reference at the end is the cherry on top. Check out the video above.
Close Encounters of the Third Kind has recently been reissued on 4K UHD and Blu-ray. The film’s legacy lives through modern productions like Stranger Things, which just unveiled a new clip from its upcoming second season.
