Perry Ellis' 2016 Fall/Winter Landscape Collection Embodies Menswear Basics
A subtle reinterpretation of fundamentals.
For Perry Ellis’ latest collection, creative director Michael Maccari returned to basics, introducing new iterations of classic silhouettes. Specifically, Maccari looked to landscape imagery playing with the concept of distortion. In his own words; “When you step back, you start to get the bigger picture of shape and proportion, but when you get closer, that image is actually made up of many complicated textures and colors.”
His vision translated well — micro prints, reminiscent of the Richard Diebenkorn’s color-blocked representations of nature, were applied to various pieces in the collection. Revealing only a simple, solid pattern from afar, the collection sees a rich sun-washed palette. Offerings in the collection include traditional field jackets in plush wool blends and sherpa; streamlined blazers and cable-knit sweaters accompany more generous proportions.
