RETNA Takes His Artwork to the San Francisco Opera
Setting the stage for a modern production of ‘Aida.’
In an unexpected move, Los Angeles-based graffiti artist RETNA has taken on the role of Artistic Designer at the San Fransisco Opera. His signature script style will become part of the stage and set design of Aida, which debuts this weekend at the historical Beaux-Arts building. Befitting Giuseppe Verdi’s opera set in Egypt, RETNA’s hieroglyphics and calligraphy-inspired works are incorporated in the backdrop, lighting and even the props.
