Tony Hawk Skates a Cardboard Skateboard
Can paper skate as well as wood?
By now, we know that skateboarding isn’t exactly the most environmentally-friendly sport, using a fair share of timber to create decks – the chief component of a skateboard’s anatomy. Signal Snowboards, while not a skateboarding brand, is renowned for its creative approach to action sports; Signal has a specially designed slope-ready wheelchair, inflatable snowboard and board-shaped xylophone to its name. Here, Signal taps the resources of Ernest Packaging to create a deck made primarily of cardboard. Recruiting the expertise of skate innovator Paul Schmitt (the mind behind PS Stix one of the country’s biggest board manufacturers), the final design was tested by Tony Hawk himself.
