Oakland-based Next Thing Co. presents a potentially game-changing innovation – the world’s first $9 USD computer. The CHIP is a single-board computer complete with all the essential functionalities, and is approximately the size of a credit card. Complete with WiFi, Bluetooth capabilities, in addition to ports for VGA and HDMI monitors, this tiny computer houses a 1GHz processor, 512 RAM and 4GB of storage, which allows for the use of many tasks including playing games, surfing the web, and typing up documents in LibreOffice. So far, the CHIP has already obliterated its goal of raising $50,000 USD on Kickstarter with over $500,000 USD being backed to the project, and the company is expecting to start shipping its product in approximately one year. Considering the incredibly compact size, affordable cost and ease of use, it’s almost certain that you’ll be hearing more from this project in the near future.
