Elon Musk has announced that Tesla‘s update 7.0 will introduce the groundwork for its autopilot, self-driving system. In Musk’s words, Version 7 will have a “complete UI overhaul” and will be available in roughly three months. The close proximity of when the project will hit the market seems quite promising considering initial autopilot test runs have successfully traveled from San Francisco to Seattle without the driver having to touch a single control. Due to traffic laws and pedestrian safety concerns, the Model S’s autopilot mode will only work on highways, and not inner-city roads or neighborhoods. Another cool feature Musk verified is the “summoning” capability — with a push of a button, your Tesla Model S will effectively leave where it is parked and make its way to you, a feature limited to private property.
