The endless benefits of Kickstarter have undoubtedly taken the Internet by storm and the latest group to source funding from the campaign platform is on-the-rise publication National Observer. The publication, which is run by the people behind the Vancouver Observer, reports on Canada’s energy policy and environmental issues. Canadian indie artist Grimes is an open supporter of the publication and, in order to help the budding mag, the young singer is auctioning off some original artwork in order to propel the Kickstarter funding. Among some pieces for sale are an original painting created for the single “Go,” another is a limited edition poster featuring the art from her new collaboration with Bleachers “Entropy.” Check out her Tumblr posting about the organization below, and the Kickstarter video below that:

The main reason I love the Observer is for their dedication to Canada’s environmental issues. How the Canadian gov has been silencing nonprofits with audits, and basically acting like complete creeps, taking money from oil companies, ignoring the communities who are noticing health issues related to tar sands or fracking, the massive environmental damage from oil spills—all that kinda stuff. The observer has broken a bunch of important stories and won awards for their journalism. If we don’t stay aware and actively shut down proposals like keystone XL there could be massive environmental/social consequences in and outside Canada.
