Foxglove, a Speakeasy Hidden Behind a Hong Kong Umbrella Shop
Step right through a sliding door into a mid-century gentleman’s whisky bar.
Continuing the disguised speakeasy trend in Hong Kong led by the cabaret-themed Mrs. Pound, the team behind the fusion restaurant have opened up another venue, Foxglove; a gentleman’s cocktail bar that is hidden behind a fine umbrella shop. Located on Ice House Street in the city’s Central district, the umbrella shopfront only stocks the Fox Umbrellas brand, hence the name. However, most visitors to the store will be looking for a secret sliding door that grants access to the lounge and restaurant, which serves a selection of rare cognacs and spirits that are aged for up to half a century. Cocktails are also themed to each decade and paired with fine French cuisine, in Old World surroundings that seats 80 people around a stage playing host to a resident jazz band. A VIP room, inspired by first-class train cabins, seats an additional 32 people.
