UPDATE: Levi's Explores Native American Skateboarding Culture in New Documentary
Skateboarding saves lives.
While much overrepresented as a lifestyle exclusive to world metropolises such as New York and London, the beauty of skateboarding lies in the fact that it transcends race and geography to deeply empower people in creating a like-minded community built on familial bonds. An upcoming Levi’s documentary, titled Skateboarding in Pine Ridge, aims to shed light on one particular community in the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation of the Lakota tribe, in South Dakota. The documentary follows the Stronghold Society and Grindline Skate Parks as they build a skate park in Pine Ridge to act as a focal point for its underserved skate culture, alongside another build in the neighboring town of Manderson. Throughout the builds, skaters Joey Pepper, Josh Matthews, Marius Syvanen, and Pat Moran visit the kids of those tows in share in the joy of skateboarding. Watch the full 17-minute documentary above.
