New Report Shows Jeans Sales Are Rapidly Declining
Levi’s vs Sweatpants.
A report by Bloomberg has hinted that the growing sportswear trend is seriously affecting sales of jeans in the U.S. With sales plummeting from $7 billion USD to $4.8 billion USD in recent years and athletic pants matching denim jeans like-for-like in terms of sales in 2014, it seems that the once ubiquitous garment is now in steady decline. Iconic denim brand Levi’s isn’t taking the news lying down however and Bart Sights, Levi’s Sr. Director for technical innovation, told Bloomberg that the company are looking forward with modern fabrics and an eye on comfort. “The trick is to get a look like this on a very modern fabric—a fabric with a lot of stretch in it,” explained Sights “There’s not another piece of apparel in the world—probably in the history of mankind—that has remained virtually unchanged and still provides function.”
