As the tide subsides on LA’s latest heat wave and the summer layover comes to a close, Penthouse Penthouse have composed a perfect send-off in the form of their debut EP, Besides.
It’s been a little over a year since the TeamSupreme alumni casually strolled through the dimly lit back door of LA’s crowded instrumental scene, amassing a following beyond their years and creating a healthy buzz through a meticulous melee of deep bass lines, snappy drums and breezy synths — Besides takes these trademark elements and blends them into an effortlessly cohesive first release.
“Private Jet” launches the proceedings perfectly and once cruising altitude is reached the dreamy chimes of “Let Me See That” drift seamlessly across a low fi two-step backdrop. The dual-tempo lounge vibes of the Stwo-collaborated “When It Rains” serve as one of the EP’s brightest highlights and as the proceedings are wrapped up through the upbeat drums and infectious clicks of the JNTHN STEIN-backed “Last Stop,” one can’t help but feel cooler than the other side of the pillow and safely assured that this is only the beginning of Penthouse Penthouse’s first class future.
