Believe it or not, but rock music is one of the main origins of the diversity of music genres that we are consuming today. Starting out in the ’50s from Memphis, Tennessee, rock music and culture has experienced a global takeover and influenced subsequent genres well into the beginning of the 21st century. However, rock seems to have lost a bit of hype in recent years. And a look at the statistics supports this thought. While there are still amazing rock acts out there (The Black Keys, Crass Mammoth, Trash Talk, The Dirty Projectors, and more), the genre’s impact on the charts and radio has significantly decreased, making way for acts from the fields of pop, rap, and electronica. However, music does go through cycles. So will we see rock eventually peak again? Will it ever be as commercial again as it once was? Or is suffering what most art forms are experiencing — degeneration? We leave it to you. Do you think rock is capable of coming back stronger than ever or will it continue to exist exclusively on oldies stations?
