Sports have always been an interest that’s front and center for Drake, and now the singer/rapper can finally step into the sports spotlight. Early this morning, it was announced that the 27-year-old Canadian superstar will be hosting this year’s ESPY Awards, and Drake took to twitter to proclaim he is “honored to be this year’s ESPYS host.” ESPN Films and Original Entertainment Vice President Connor Schell says that Drake “is an unbelievably talented entertainer who has a passion for sports,” and the award show’s executive producer Maura Mandt followed up his statement with praise for Drake’s “charisma, energy” and fearlessness.” The ESPY’s will be broadcasted live July 16 on ESPN.
