Fresh off the debut of its brand new Gear 2 smartwatches, Samsung presents its latest addition to its Galaxy smartphone range: the Galaxy S5. Featuring a familiar design aesthetic, the 2014 Galaxy release now includes the likes of a fingerprint scanner and heart rate sensor in addition to Android 4.4 KitKat and a reworked TouchWiz user interface. Incorporating a 5.1” 1080p Super AMOLED screen, the Galaxy S5 also features a microSD slot, micro-USB 3.0 port, a removable 2,800mAh battery, and an interchangeable leather-like back cover. The new phone is also Samsung’s first Galaxy to be IP67-certified, which means it offers better water- and dust-resistance than past releases. Underneath the hood, the phone couples a 2.5GHz Snapdragon 800 processor with 2GB of RAM, NFC, Bluetooth 4.0 BLE/ANT+, Cat 4 LTE, and either 16GB or 32GB of internal storage. While pricing has yet to be revealed, the Samsung Galaxy S5 is due to ship this April.
