In the “rooftopping” craze of recent years spawned by amateur videos of Russian daredevil teenagers and their death-defying stunts atop various abandoned skyscrapers, Oscar-winning director of Back to the Future Robert Zemeckis’ newest film takes a look at the man who arguably started it all 40 years ago. Titled The Walk, the film follows the exploits of French high-wire artist Philippe Petit in the lead-up to his now infamous and highly-publicized attempt at walking a steel cable strung between the Twin Towers of New York’s World Trade Center, over 100 stories above ground. Starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Ben Kingsley, The Walk will be released in cinemas in October 2015.
