A Look Inside Airbnb's Portland Office

Since its launch in 2008, Airbnb has been slowly changing the hospitality landscape with its innovative peer-to-peer accommodation concept which offers a wide array of choices in countless cities for any user looking to find a place to stay. Airbnb’s new Portland office reflects this notion of variety and with a multi-environment workspace that was designed for its workers to move freely within for customer calls and impromptu meetings. The space houses upwards of 200 employees, who instead of having assigned desks are free to work in any part of the office they find best fit, with certain areas more open and brightly lit and some other areas that are more dimly-lit and secluded. In preparation of this concept, head designers Aaron Taylor Harvey and Rachael Yu spent a month getting to know the team and the city in order to get a sense of the Portland group’s identity. Local furnishings in addition to member-made items were incorporated into the design to ensure that everyone felt right at home from the get-go.
