Lifetime’s premiere of Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B aired over the weekend and was quickly stormed with a flurry of negative responses from fans of the late R&B singer. The Lifetime biopic has since broke the Internet, and in true Generation Z fashion, an uproar of fan-created memes have been making their rounds across social media expressing their displeasure with the movie and poking fun at the poorly executed job on this unauthorized, “biographical” film.
One of the leader’s behind the retaliation is mega-producer and close friend of Aaliyah, Timbaland. Timbo and Missy Elliot produced the singer’s sophomore album and owe much of their initial success to her. Even before it aired the producer did not hesitate to speak out on social media, calling the film “bullsh*t” and urging fans not to watch it. Above is just one of the many clips that Timbaland posted on his Instagram regarding his displeasure with the film that did not include any original songs and reportedly was not supported by Aaliyah’s family.
