Better known for upcycling truck tarps into an array of popular handheld luggage products, Zurich-based Freitag has now begun its own initiative to produce an environmentally conscious, 100% biodegradable workwear textile for application in its employee’s garments and beyond. Called Freitag F-ABRIC, the textile is made from European flax fibers in combination with hemp and modal, which are then processed into a dense, tear-proof and scrub-resistant fabric. All the materials and components are sourced from and produced within 2,500 km of Zurich, which lowers the ecological footprint of the final product significantly by saving on transport and fuel. To exhibit the capabilities of its new fabric, Freitag has released several products for the consumer market, all of which can be found here. Make sure to watch the video above explaining the conception and developmental process of this functional and eco-friendly textile.
