2014 is one of the driest years to date in terms of album sales. Forbes has released a new report that paints a sad picture for album profits and artists in general. While it’s no secret album sales have been in steady decline for years, this year is especially dire as not a single album this year has gone platinum. It’s not just albums either, Forbes also reports that single sales have dropped from 83 platinum songs to 60 in 2014. It may depress you further to discover that, additionally, Forbes reported that the highest sales in music albums this year belong to country singer Eric Church and British band Coldplay. While it is still possible for these artists albums to make the platinum mark, it will be nearly impossible to ship the copies required before years end. The only coming contender for 2014’s platinum title is the ubiquitous Taylor Swift, given her gigantic sale numbers for her 2012 album Red. Here’s hoping 2015 will have more promise for artists.
