Founders and designers of Dolce & Gabbana, Deomenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana have been cleared by Italy’s highest court of tax evasion charges, bringing an end to one of the highest profile tax cases in Italy in recent years. The two were found guilty by two lower Italian courts for failing to declare approximately €40 million ($50.7 million USD) for the years of 2004 and 2005 that the company had earned through a subsidy based in Luxembourg. While the two designers have always denied the charges, the prosecutors dubbed the operation as a “sophisticated tax fraud.” The Supreme Court of Cassation was asked to confirm the sentence and it acquitted the pair saying there was no case to answer.
