For all those who tuned in to The Colbert Report hoping to catch a glimpse of the legendary duo, Daft Punk, you might want to take your no-show complaints to MTV and the VMAs. The electronic music icons were apparently signed on to an exclusive surprise VMA performance contract with Viacom, the network that owns MTV, who stepped in two hours before their scheduled Colbert Report appearance to halt the hype and cut their appearance on the show. It seems that there’s still a bit of he-said she-said surrounding the matter, with Stephen Colbert arguing that Daft Punk never promised anything, but the day was saved by Robin Thicke who stepped in with “Blurred Lines.” Tune in to the MTV Video Music Awards on August 25, with performances by Daft Punk and Kanye West now confirmed.
