While many fledgling producers have found acclaim through the use of various social media portals, Marvel Alexander is less concerned with his “followers” or ad-hoc promotion tactics. His energy is instead acutely translated to his intricate production and clever use of samples, formulating mock-ups to some of dance and experimental music’s greatest — think Aphex Twins meets Flying Lotus with a splash Beyoncé – just to make it all relevant. If you’re looking for mindless radio-friendly hip-hop, this won’t be your jam, moreover, Alexander takes the attributes of your favorite chart hits and melds them into introvert bedroom-produced tracks that odes of personal temperament. Titled Egodeth: Earth for 2, the 12-track album journeys through raw, outlandish hip-hop beats while toying with contemporary sounds — a platform where retro console samples are flung next to air horns and big snares are complement with heroic synths. Just as you think Alexander’s production is over-droned with eerieness, the producer brings us back to familiar grounds with a rework on Jai Paul’s “BTSTU” and funkier offerings like “Sitting In Candy Paint,” finishing off with an EDM rendition titled “Listening to Trap Music” to quench the palettes of those apprehensive of the previous.
