Release a highly anticipated Billboard 200-topping album, get your own race car. Such is the formula for Daft Punk, apparently, as the robotic duo have teamed up with Lotus ahead of the 2013 Monaco Grand Prix – just days after dropping the electro-disco epic Random Access Memories. Based on the bevy of teaser videos and background culled from Lotus’s Formula One team Twitter page, it looks like the helmeted likenesses of Daft Punk’s Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter will adorn a predominately black Lotus entry at the 72nd edition of the storied race. Let’s hope that a shiny new version of the car hits the streets of Monte Carlo as this year’s Monaco Grand Prix gets underway this Sunday, May 26 – driver Romain Grosjean’s Punk-emblazoned car careened into a barrier during practice today after exiting the first corner at Sainte Devote with a bit too much speed.
